Transform your garden into a thriving butterfly habitat with the Butterfly Banquet Collection, a curated selection of native perennial plants that provide critical nectar and host resources from late summer into fall. This collection is specifically designed to support Monarch migration and late-season native bees when food sources are scarce, ensuring your garden gives back to local biodiversity.
This thoughtfully selected group of native perennials creates a tapestry of colors and textures, bringing visual interest and ecological value to your landscape. Ideal for sunny to partly shaded areas, the Butterfly Banquet Collection offers both beauty and essential function for a wildlife-friendly space.
What’s Included:
This collection features three powerful pollinator magnets, each with unique benefits:
- Narrow-Leaved Sunflower (Helianthus angustifolius): Tall, golden, daisy-like blooms with dark centers brighten late summer and fall gardens.
- Frostweed (Verbesina virginica): Stately stalks and clusters of small, lacy white flowers bloom from late summer through the first frost.
- Blue Mistflower (Conoclinium coelestinum): Abundant, fluffy clusters of vibrant blue to violet flowers create a soft, mist-like appearance from late summer to fall.
Key Features of the Collection:
- Pollinator Powerhouse: Supports a wide variety of pollinators, including Monarchs, Swallowtails, native bees, and beneficial insects.
- Late-Season Blooms: Provides continuous, essential nectar from late summer through the fall, a critical time for migrating species.
- Four-Season Interest: Offers stunning fall color and unique winter features like sunflower seed heads for birds and frost flowers on the Frostweed.
- Low Maintenance & Resilient: These tough, native perennials are drought-tolerant once established and require minimal upkeep.
- Pollinator-Safe: Grown non-GMO and free of harmful neonicotinoids, promoting a healthy ecosystem for pollinators and wildlife.
Available in collections of nine, 18, or 27 plants to suit gardens of any size.
Planting Tips:
The plants in the Butterfly Banquet Collection prefer conditions ranging from full sun to part shade and generally thrive in moist, well-drained soil.
- Location: Choose a site with full sun to part shade. Narrow-leaved Sunflower thrives in moist to occasionally wet, acidic soils, and Blue Mistflower prefers moist soils. Frostweed adapts well to open, dryish woodlands and dappled shade.
- Watering: Water regularly during the first growing season to establish deep, healthy roots. Once established, these plants are highly drought-tolerant and require little supplemental water.
- Maintenance: Minimal care required. There's no need to deadhead the flowers, as allowing them to go to seed provides a valuable food source for birds. Leaving the stems standing in the fall offers overwintering sites for beneficial insects. If desired, cut back the stems in late spring after pollinators have emerged.
