Bring early-season nectar and vibrant color to your garden with Pink Beardtongue (Penstemon australis), a hardy native perennial that produces graceful spikes of pink, tubular flowers from early spring through mid to late summer. These blooms are a magnet for butterflies, native bees, and hummingbirds, making it an excellent choice for pollinator-friendly landscapes.
Thriving in part shade and moist, well-drained soil, pink beardtongue is a low-maintenance, long-lasting perennial that returns each year to provide food and habitat for wildlife while adding beauty and movement to your garden.
Why Grow Pink Beardtongue?
- Pollinator & Bird Friendly: A rich nectar source for butterflies, native bees, and hummingbirds.
- Extended Bloom Time: Provides long-lasting color from early spring through late summer.
- Drought-Tolerant & Resilient: Once established, thrives in moist to dry soils with minimal care.
- Deer & Rabbit Resistant: Naturally unappealing to browsing wildlife, ensuring lasting blooms.
- Adds Color & Texture: Tall, airy flower spikes make it a great addition to wildflower gardens, borders, and meadows.
- Pollinator-Safe: Grown non-GMO and free of harmful neonicotinoids, promoting a healthy ecosystem for pollinators and wildlife.
Available in sets of three, six, or 12 plants to create a pollinator-friendly haven in your garden.
Planting Tips:
- Location: Prefers part shade with moist, well-drained soil but can adapt to drier conditions once established.
- Watering: Water regularly during the first growing season to establish strong roots. Once established, requires only occasional watering in dry conditions.
- Maintenance: Minimal care required. There's no need to deadhead the flowers, as allowing them to go to seed provides a valuable food source for birds. Leaving the stems standing in the fall offers overwintering sites for beneficial insects. If desired, cut back the stems in late spring after pollinators have emerged.
