Spring 2026 Shipping Status: 85% Complete

We have successfully shipped 85% of all spring pre-orders as of late May! We are now working through our final remaining orders.

Here is what you need to know about the final push:

    • Readiness Rules: Orders ship based on plant maturity (fully rooted, 3–6 inches of new growth). If one or more plants in your order aren't ready, it may cause a slight delay.

    • Our Solution: To speed things up, we are actively sourcing missing species from alternative locations or offering plant substitutions when necessary.

    • The Timeline: We process the oldest orders first. If you placed your pre-order later in the season (March or April), you are in the final queue. All remaining orders are estimated to ship within the next 2-3 weeks.

If you are placing an order in May or June and the shipping status for the product is "Open," expect your order to ship within our standard 10-14 day window.

Try the new chatbot at the bottom right of your screen to request an estimated shipping timeframe.

Your plants will ship within 10-14 days of your order date. You’ll receive a confirmation email from orders@gardenforwildlife.com with tracking information as soon as your order is being prepared for shipment.

*Important note: To ensure your plants arrive healthy, we may delay shipments to certain areas during times of extreme temperatures, natural disasters, or other conditions that will impact the plants during transit. Any delays will be clearly communicated. For more information, read our Shipping Policy or check our FAQs.

We are currently shipping out pre-orders of these plants. Pre-orders are shipped in the order that they were received, after the last frost date in your region passes. You’ll receive an automated email from orders@gardenforwildlife.com with tracking information as soon as your order is being prepared for shipment.

This plant is growing and getting ready for your garden! Place your pre-order today to reserve it for Spring 2026 delivery. Pre-orders will ship in the order they are received, after the last frost date for your region passes. You’ll receive a confirmation email from orders@gardenforwildlife.com with tracking information as soon as your order is being prepared for shipment.

What is my USDA Hardiness Zone?

Sometimes called “growing zones,” hardiness zones refer to a map developed by the USDA that separates the United States into regions based on the average low winter temperatures. The USDA Hardiness Zone Map is the standard by which gardeners and growers can determine which plants are most likely to thrive at a location. The map is based on the average annual minimum winter temperature, divided into 10-degree F zones and further divided into 5-degree F half-zones. Click here to look up your hardiness zone by zip code.

    When will my plants ship?

Find your shipping region to see when the approximate shipping timeframe will be. All orders are filled in the order they are received, with the oldest pre-orders shipping first.

    Frequently Asked Questions
    • Product Description
    • Bring a multi-colored masterpiece to the shaded corners of your garden with Pigeonberry (Rivina humilis), a versatile native perennial also known as Rouge Plant, Bloodberry, or Baby-Peppers. This low-growing herb is a rare garden standout that simultaneously displays delicate pale pink-to-white flowers and clusters of vibrant, translucent scarlet berries. Growing 1–3 feet tall, it naturally thrives in the understory of larger trees and shrubs, providing a lush, decorative layer to woodland gardens and shaded borders.

While its aesthetic appeal is undeniable, Pigeonberry is also an ecological powerhouse. Its numerous red fruits are a "choice food" for many species of birds, and its nectar-rich blooms support various pollinators throughout a long growing season.

      Key Features:

      • Simultaneous Blooms & Berries: Features small white-to-pink flowers and bright red fruit on the same stem, creating a striking visual contrast.
      • Wildlife Magnet: The berries are a highly sought-after food source for a wide variety of birds.
      • Larval Host: Acts as a critical host plant for the Goodson’s Greenstreak butterfly.
      • Shade Expert: Prefers light shade and dappled light, making it a perfect solution for the difficult "herb layer" beneath canopy trees.
      • Adaptable & Resilient: Tolerates a range of soil types, from sand and loam to heavy clay and calcareous soils.
      • Historical Significance: Historically used as a source for cosmetics and dyes, earning it the common name "Rouge Plant".
      • Pollinator-Safe: Grown non-GMO and free of harmful neonicotinoids, promoting a healthy ecosystem for pollinators and wildlife.

Available in sets of three, six, or 12 plants to establish a colorful, bird-friendly understory.

      Why Choose Pigeonberry?

Pigeonberry is the ideal choice for gardeners looking to add vertical interest and color to shaded areas where other flowering plants might struggle. It is a hardy, herbaceous perennial that grows from a woody taproot, ensuring its resilience season after season. Whether you are looking to support local bird populations or simply want a " Rouge-like" splash of color in a container garden, its wavy-edged leaves and "blood-red" berries make it a timeless addition to any native landscape.

      Planting Tips:

      1. Location: Prefers light shade and moist conditions but is remarkably adaptable; it has been reported to grow in full sun even without supplemental water. Thrives in well-drained sand, sandy loam, loam, clay, or limestone-based soils.
      2. Watering: Prefers consistent moisture; without supplemental water during the summer or during extended droughts, the plant may go dormant.
      3. Maintenance: Spreads rapidly via underground roots and seed. Lightly prune the stems if the plant becomes too leggy or "straggling" to maintain a tidier shape.

Caution: Both the fruit and leaves are toxic to humans and pets if ingested. Handle with care and plant away from areas frequented by small children or grazing animals.

      Worth the Investment

I have been so impressed with each delivery I've received. The packaging is superb, keeping the plants in a safe, healthy state during shipping. Each plant has been healthy and strong, transplanting and thriving. Every single plant I ordered and put in my garden last year, came back strong this year - acting every bit like a 3rd year plant. I love my 3 Little Bluestem plugs and can't wait to watch them grow next year. Absolutely worth the cost!

      Beautiful and Resilient!

I planted them this spring so no flowers yet but I did accidentally break the stem for two of the plants which had ALL the leaves. I thought the plant was a goner BUT it came back. The root system was strong even for the little plants and it is back to thriving again.
