No! You can minimize heat stress on new transplants by planting during the cooler parts of the day, such as early morning or late evening.
Once planted, getting the watering right is key for establishment.
How Often: Water new plants daily, ideally in the morning, as they get established. Pay close attention during heat waves or droughts and water accordingly.
How Much: Aim for consistently moist soil, not waterlogged. Think of the texture of a well-wrung-out sponge – damp to the touch, but not dripping wet or sitting in standing water.
How to Check: The best way to know if you need to water is to check the soil directly. Gently stick your finger into the soil about 1-2 inches down, near the base of the plant. If it feels dry at that depth, it's time to water. If it feels moist, you can likely wait.
